Longview is home to a symphony orchestra, community theater, and ballet and regional opera, all with annual production schedules. The East Texas Symphonic Band performs free concerts and the progressive ArtsView Children’s Theatre produces several shows year-round. Longview has fascinating historical museums and boasts a world-class museum of fine art that houses a collection of more than 300 paintings, sculptures, photographs, woodblock, pottery and etchings.
- Artsview Children’s Theatre: a progressive theatre arts program with several productions throughout the year. Casts consist of children and youth.
- Longview Ballet Theatre: a group of innovative and dedicated people with a love and passion for classical dance.
- East Texas Symphonic Band: is made up of volunteer musicians who provide free concerts to the East Texas community.
- Longview Symphony: hosts five major concerts and a chamber music concert; December presents the highly popular Night in Old Vienna.
- Longview Community Theatre: presents four outstanding performances each year.
- Opera East Texas: a year-round company with a blended national and local cast and crew. Fully professional orchestra performances are held in early June.
- Longview Museum of Fine Arts: exhibits six shows per year, including works from artists from Texas and the Southwest, as well as international artists.
- Gregg County Historical Museum: listed on the National Register of Historic Places, the museum features permanent exhibits that illustrate the development of Gregg County.
- Longview Balloon Races: this world-class event attracts the very best competitive pilots from across the globe. Balloon festivals and rallies provide both participants and spectators with an opportunity to see an outstanding array of hot-air balloons.
- East Texas Angel Network Benefit Concert: Neal McCoy along with many friends from the music industry donate their time for the East Texas Angel Network in order to enhance the lives of families in East Texas whose children may be suffering from a serious or life-threatening illness.
Festivals abound year-round. If you visit the first weekend in June you’ll want to celebrate AlleyFest, the kick-off to summer. Other festivals include a Juneteenth celebration, a Shakespeare festival, a three-day world-class balloon competition and race, the county fair, the Kennel Club Dog Show and various holiday celebrations.
Tyler Street is filled with antique shops, boutiques, crafter malls, restaurants, coffee shops and much more. Longview also boasts four golf courses, two bowling alleys, amusement centers, movie theatres, a skating center and 20 shopping centers.
